Northwest Arkansas has excellent resources for information and care of the aging. When Mr. Lawrence Scmieding collaborated with the University of Arkansas Medical Sciences in Little Rock to create the Schmieding Center for Senior Health and Education, he began the geriatric care services expansion in our Northwest Arkansas region. Thanks to Mr. Schmieding and his vision for quality geriatric care, NW Arkansas probably has a higher number of fellowship trained geriatricians per population than any other area of the country.  Statewide senior clinics were modeled after the design of the Schmieding Center’s clinic and care support services. Today the entire state of Arkansas benefits from clinics providing geriatricians and from caregiver training and support in each district of the state.
